The exhibition ALCHEMICAL IM/POSSIBILITIES brings together works by Gertraud Köck, Christian Murzek, Florian Nitsch, and Michaela Putz. At its core, the exhibition explores the tensions and connections between digital and analog artistic practices, as well as their impact on perception, the environment, and creative process.
Using a wide range of media – drawing, painting, screen printing, collage, photography, installation, video, and performance – the artists investigate how analog and digital worlds interact. A central theme is abstraction: both digital and analog methods offer new perspectives on the image and create a dialogue between material and immaterial dimensions.
The works provide insight into a generation of artists who have experienced the shift from analog to digital firsthand. Their artistic inquiries focus on transformation, transcription, and the growing influence of attention economies in the digital age. Analog techniques, in turn, offer moments of stillness, concentration, and critical reflection.
ALCHEMICAL IM/POSSIBILITIES serves as a platform for process-based artistic research and intermedia exchange. The exhibition was first presented in September 2024 at Sehsaal Vienna. The collaboration will continue in a new format at FRAPPANT Hamburg, where it will be further developed and expanded.
